Kovalovsky Planetary Gears
Planetary gears have been around for centuries, and have been found in fishing reels dating back to the 1800's.  But leave it to Arthur to take his knowledge of automobile transmissions and design a set of planetary gears for his big game rim control model reels.  These particular gears are out of a rim control "Esquire" model cradle reel originally owned and fished by Dr. Alfred S. Bayles of Port Washington, Long Island, New York.  Note the liberal use of axle grease!
